My name is Alan Lyall. I live on the Norfolk/Suffolk border in the UK and I have been taking photos for many years. My first 'proper' camera was a Zenit-E (I remember feeling 'guilty' about spending £40 on it). I have progressed a bit since then and I now use a Canon professional digital SLR (EOS 5D4 and 1Ds3), Canon 'L' lenses and I have no more guilt...

I have always had an interest in natural history and many of my photographs reflect this. I am also fascinated by macro photography - the ability to see things that the naked eye cannot never ceases to amaze.

In 2000, my then wife and I took up scuba diving and in 2006 I started taking photos underwater with my SLR. I have been fortunate to be able to travel to many exotic destinations to indulge these joint passions.

I retired early from full time paid work at the end of 2013 and am now looking to photography to fill my time and start a late 'second career'. My catalogue of images still forms a major part of my offering but I am now providing photographic services. If you would like me to photograph your event please get in touch. If you would like a portrait session with me please visit my other site -

I was awarded the Licentiateship distinction (LRPS) by the Royal Photographic Society in October 2016 and the Credit Award (CPAGB) by the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain in November 2016.
